The purpose of this message is to give you advance notice regarding another FAO/NordGen webinar on animal gene banking. To refresh your memories, in 2021 FAO developed guidelines onInnovations in conservation of animal genetic resources. The guidelines were prepared by an international team of scientists and gene bank managers, many of whom were partners in the EU Horizon 2020 project IMAGE (Innovative Management of Animal Genetic Resources).
FAO has organized a series of webinars on cryoconservation of animal genetic resources. Nine webinars have been held so far. Recordings of past webinars and Powerpoint presentations can be found on the websites of FAO and of NordGen, the Nordic Genetic Resources Center, which is collaborating in the presentation of the webinars.
This webinar will be held Monday 12 December at 17:00 Central European Time (GMT+1) and will last approximately one hour.
The topic of the webinar will be PRESERVATION, COLLECTION, USE, AND QUALITY EVALUATION OF GONADAL TISSUES, DIPLOID, GERM, AND SOMATIC CELLS. The content of the webinar will be based on Section 6 of the guidelines. Speakers in the webinar will include Jon Oatley (Washington State University) and Phil Purdy (National Animal Germplasm Program, USDA-ARS) from the United States and Kriszti Liptói (Institute for Small AnimaI Research and Co-ordination Centre for Gene Conservation) from Hungary.
