Call for abstracts

The submission period of scientific abstracts for the 24th World Poultry Congress (WPC 2012), to be held on August 5-9, 2012, in Salvador (BA), Brazil, is open.

DEADLINE Extended till 31 January 2012

The abstracts can be submitted for evaluation through the WPC 2012 website (www.wpc2012.com) until January 31. Submissions are opened to students, university and industry researchers, and professionals dedicated to poultry science.

Awards 2012

The Foundation for Promoting Poultry Science of the Netherlands Branch of the World’s Poultry Science Association has announced that the fifth group of awards will be presented at the XXIV World’s Poultry Congress in Salvador, Brazil in 2012. The awards are normally made in each of three categories - Education, Organization and Research - which coincide with the wording on the WPSA logo. An internationally representative committee chosen by the Board of the Foundation for Promoting Poultry Science will decide recipients. While it is anticipated that one award will be made in each category, this may vary depending on the number and quality of submissions.

Nominations Committee

The purpose of the Nominations Committee is to put forward the list of candidates for the positions of Secretary General, Treasurer and the 5 Vice-president positions to be voted for at the Council Meeting at each World’s Poultry Congress (WPC). The membership and procedures to be followed by the Committee have been set out in the newly-adopted By-Laws of WPSA. The Committee is chaired by a WPSA member of high international repute appointed by the Board, and the Board is delighted to report that Prof Sally Solomon has accepted the invitation to act in this role.

Bids for WPC2020

The Board of the World’s Poultry Science Association (WPSA) hereby invites bids for the World’s Poultry Congress of 2020.

Congress bids are open to all Branches. It has been the practice in the past to move the Congress around the World and to avoid having consecutive congresses in the same, or adjacent, continents. Branches should recognize this when preparing bids.

Call for Centennial Posters

WPSA will celebrate its 100 years of existence in 2012.
Special events are scheduled for this celebration at the World Poultry Congress in Brazil.
The WPSA board is inviting all institutions, either academic or industry, WPSA branches, individual members, to prepare an e-poster that will be on display on a large TV screen at the WPC2012 and provided to all delegates on a CD.

Philatelic History of WPC's
Exhibition

At the occasion of the WPSA Centennial Anniversary in 2012, our Belgium based club “Les Amis de la Mère Poule” will assist in the production of the exhibit ‘The Philatelic History of the World’s Poultry Congresses’.

This exhibit will feature the philatelic items issued by the different WPSA Branches at the occasion of the World’s Poultry Congress organized by them during the last century (see http://www.galligalaxy.net/wpsa/wpsaIndex.html for some of the material).

International Poultry Hall of Fame

The next presentation of members for the International Poultry Hall of Fame (IPHF) will take place at the next World’s Poultry Science Congress in Salvador, Brazil in 2012.
To have enough time to prepare the election for the International Poultry Hall of Fame the nominations of individuals should start as soon as possible.

General guidelines

No one should be nominated to the IPHF whose international contribution(s) preceded the founding of the World's Poultry Science Association. Not more than five (5) persons, living or deceased may be elected to the IPHF and inducted at each World's Poultry Congress.
No monetary value will be placed on recognition. Those newly elected to the IPHF will be honoured at each World's Poultry Congress and, if in attendance, will be personally presented to the audience. Upon initial election to the IPHF, honourees will receive an appropriate plaque or other memento to mark the occasion. A photograph and citation will be published in the World's Poultry Science Journal and on the WPSA website.

Guidelines WPC2020

As stated in Article III of the WPSA By-Laws, the venue for a WPC will be decided by vote at the Council meeting held at the WPC eight years before the subject WPC. A letter of intent to host a WPC must be received from the Branch by the WPSA Secretary no later than twelve (12) months prior to this Council meeting, and the formal bid, which should include the host city, venue and proposed dates, must be received by the WPSA Secretary no later than eight (8) months prior to the above Council meeting.
