He was an first an Assistant and then Associate Professor of Poultry Science at Washington State University form 1948 to 1955 and an Associate and Full Professor at Purdue University from 1958 to 1983. On retirement he was awarded Professor Emeritus rank. Since 1983 he has served as a consultant to several poultry-related companies. Recognition was extended to him by elections as President of the Poultry Science Association (1977), President of the Refrigerated and Frozen Food Division of the Institute of Food Technologists and Outstanding Teacher Award of the Poultry Science Association. In 1999 he was awarded a Certificate of Distinction by Purdue University Agricultural Alumni Association. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals dealing with poultry and egg product development, and quality preservation and determination. He has contributed chapters to seven books and has been co-author of two books relating to poultry and eggs. He has served as major professor for 34 MS and 35 PhD degree students.
