FAO - knowledge dissemination dialogues on AMR

a6753416-0e03-48bf-b1ab-737ff9424f72

In recent decades, the use of antibiotics in livestock has declined in many places thanks to the dedication and hard work of veterinarians, nutritionists and farmers. Yet, there remains more to be done.

The responsible use of antibiotics is pivotal to creating a sustainable food system. Join us on 10 November 2022 from 12:30 to 13:30 CET for an online knowledge dissemination dialogue on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) hosted by the FAO AMR Working Group with the FAO Sustainable Livestock Technical Network.

DSM experts Dr Nataliya Roth, Global Portfolio Lead Microbial Modulation, and Franz Waxenecker, Senior Director Precision Services, will share the latest research on "Addressing antimicrobial resistance in farm animals and implementing antibiotic free systems."

Key topics:

  • how antimicrobial resistance threatens the effectiveness of the farmers, integrators and feed millers;
  • how any use of antibiotics leads to increasing prevalence of antibiotic resistance vectors in a microbial ecosystem, such as the gut microbiome or the environment;
  • how the prevalence of antimicrobial resistance is reversible and goes down again with the avoidance of the use of antibiotics;
  • how health through optimum nutrition, precision analytics and feed additives can all contribute to reducing the need for antibiotics in livestock.
